History
Chengdu International School (CDIS) was founded in 1997 to provide an American educational program for the children of expatriates living in the Chengdu area.
In the beginning
Classes began in the fall of 1997 on the campus of Jia Hao School. Initially there were 18 students in the school and four full-time teachers. Classes were held on the third floor of the original building.
Growth and expansion
In the fall of 1998, the school grew to 38 students and expanded to the second floor of the original building. In 2000 the school grew to 72 students and expanded the secondary program from seventh to tenth grade. Because of continued school growth, CDIS moved to the fifth floor of Jinguan Xincheng School in 2002.
Construction of the current school building began in May of 2005 and on December 24, 2005, CDIS moved to its current campus. CDIS is located outside of Third Ring Road in one of Chengdu’s two high-tech industrial zones. The campus contains three classroom buildings, two office buildings, an auditorium, library, science and computer labs, a track and field, and two basketball courts. The campus enjoys wireless internet access throughout.
CDIS today
CDIS now has 26 foreign teachers and 48 Chinese staff members. The current enrollment of the school will soon reach 250 students. This year we've added one administrator to focus on the elementary school. Students at the school now have the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities such as art, choir, drama, band, chess, volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball and dance. Students from grades 6-12 now compete in ISC tournaments for chess, volleyball, basketball, and soccer. They participate in the annual ISC choral festival in Tianjin.
