Special Classes
In addition to our core curriculum, Chengdu International School also offers the following classes:
Special Education
CDIS supports an integrated education mode where general educators and special education staff work together to educate the range of student learners. CDIS currently administers special education for three students. Teachers are encouraged to incorporate the principles of differentiation into lesson planning, instruction and assessment. The school embraces a philosophy of inclusion, which provides individualized programs to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment with appropriate supports. Special education staff members provide direct services to students within the general education classroom whenever possible to meet student learning needs
SAT, ACT, PSAT Testing
CDIS provides the following college entrance exams for students seeking college admission in the United States:
- PSAT® (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test)
- SAT® (Scholastic Aptitude Test)
- ACT® (American College Test)
All 10th and 11th graders participate in the PSAT® The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which is co-sponsored by The College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). It is developed, administered and scored for the co-sponsors by Educational Testing Service. The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading, math and writing skills that are important for success in college. Critical reading and math sections test a student's ability to reason with facts and concepts; the multiple-choice writing skills component assesses communication skills.
Most students take the test as high school juniors, but some take it as sophomores or in earlier grades. Information obtained from test results can help students plan their education beyond high school. PSAT/NMSQT scores can be used to estimate probable performance on the SAT®.
The PSAT/NMSQT is used by NMSC as an initial screen of entrants in its annual academic competitions for recognition and college scholarships. NMSC receives the scores of all students who take the PSAT/NMSQT. Those who qualify to continue in the competitions receive applications from NMSC.
In the last two years CDIS has had 20% of it seniors receive commendations for high scores on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Test.
